And, BTW.....some opinions please? My roadside warranty has now expired, and some have suggested I pick up a CAA/AAA membership. My experience with them in Alberta is not a positive one; and I visited their website and can't imagine what good this $65 membership would do me? They'll only tow 10 km (about 8 miles), which will get you absolutely nowhere....and only do one lockout service before cutting you off....so tell me what's good about this?? They'll do gas delivery, but I've never in my life run out of gas....and I don't need maps, I have mapquest and a GPS.

Thoughts, and any other suggestions besides them? Your experiences?

I used to have CAA, and never had a problem with it. I only ever wanted it for an emergency, and felt better knowing I was covered when I was out on the highways, particularly at night. Now I am covered by the roadside assistance call centre that we have on site at work, so I have no limits as to how many tows per year or how far they will tow me. It's one of those jobs that doesn't pay well, but the perks make it worth it. :) Sorry, I know that was no help whatsoever.....

Shoot, and I was counting on you to be the expert! :hysterical: Any suggestions for companies that provide assistance based on your work experience?

It's not that I think there'll be a problem with CAA like there was in Alberta~but I truly can't understand how they'd be able to help if you ran into an emergency at night on the road? They won't tow you far enough to get anywhere......I guess I maybe don't understand what they're providing that would be of assistance?

1) Listen - such a strange thing, singing someone else's song. Didn't Clay say they sung eachother's songs on the bus? This is familiar to me somehow. Anyway, isn't it odd they did not just skip the song. You would think eliminating the song would be the easy thing, especially if you know you are not only recorded but posted on youtube for every little thing. And there are people out there waiting to post every single mistake ever on blogs and eventually on news pages. I think it showed a comfort level of Clay with his audience. I think the oddness of it fascinates me. Some guys would never try and sing that song as it was a "girl song" in the play/movie.

2) Car service. Right now I get my service at the dealer because the dealer is competitve with everyone one out there and because my mechanic has gone out of business. It is 45 dollars for Lube, oil, tire rotation and checking all fluids, brakes, etc. I think it is reasonable. Now some dealers cheat, but I have been lucky and learned that pretty early - with one wanting to replace my entire electrical system and insisting that it was not under warrently, so I left there and hightailed it back to the usual dealer, even though they were not near me - guess what, loose wire. no charge. They just sent me a coupon - 10% off the next service!

As to going to the cheap franchises, like anything else you take your chances. I went to a brake one and they stripped my wheel locks, instead of asking for the key, meaning I had to get the locks cut off and replaced - expensive. Nice and stupid, they could not do it to just one wheel, no the idipots they hired did it to all wheels and then they denied it and claimed I came in that way - they were very big guys, I backed down, but made sure everyone in town knew about them. I posted it on the town web site. I had a local mechanic that for some reason my ex did not like, but we had a great working relationship, he would let me in the floor while they were working on the car and we would talk about what he was doing and he was always reasonable. But ex demanded when I needed a new muffler I take it to a "specialist" place that was cheaper - i.e. Midas. Well, I get there and they call me into the floor to tell me the car supportg struts needed to be replaced for a over a thousand dollars, my car would have to be dissassembled (this was 20 years ago), yadda yadda yadda - I asked them to give me my car back and drove to my mechanic. a. he was competitive with the muffler price and b. he said they were running a scam and the struts were just looked old but were fine and would outlast the car, he was right. My rule of thumb is if I find someone good, keep going to them and don't screw around with other places.

3) board settings - I have had that problem with other boards, not here and what I found I had to do was reboot. Sometimes I had to set it to rich text and them back to standard. I have no idea why it happens, but it happened to me a lot on IDF and thenit would spread to all other inversion boards. Weird, isn't it?

PSA...

If anyone finds they're having problems accessing certain websites and getting the error message "Internet Explorer cannot open this site... Operation Aborted." Here is the problem.

Seems to be causing quite a stir...

I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out since last night!

If you scroll down through the comments there are a couple of fixes for it. I used the one entering *.sitemeter.com into my restricted sites. Oops but now it looks like I get all their newsletters. lol Maybe we should just wait until IE and Sitemeter dook it out...

I have been using Firefox since it first came out because of the security problems associated with Internet Explorer. I much prefer it to IE and you can get some pretty neat add-ons including a really good and fast download engine.

Claygary it does seem unreasonable that CAA would only tow for 10 miles in Alberta..have you tried calling them and getting further clarification. Here they will tow to the nearest service station and in the past the local BCAA person for a few extra bucks would tow it further.

One of the perks of having a membership is that if you are in someone else's car and it breaks down you can use your membership to help the vehicle owner. This happened when I was with a relative in the Lake District in England and my BCAA membership covered the cost of towing the car from a little back road all the way to the nearest Volvo dealership!

I get daily notification from Kim Komando on a cool site of the day and today it is Where the Locals Eat At The featured city today is Raleigh-Durham.

And for you dog lovers a video on an amazing Texan dog. Forgive me if you have seen this before . Skidboots

I have found that my ears hurt when Angela hits her high notes but have assumed that it was part of the problem I have of some hearing loss. I notice that I find high voices irritating in a way that they didn't when I was younger. I must listen to Angela's Listen again now that I have just gotten one of those amazing little digital hearing aids...see if I can tolerate those high notes.

Scarlett...have you asked around for recommendations for a good mechanic in Houston, other than here? Having your oil down to 27% is a little scary. How old is your car? Do you know how to check your oil?

I almost ruined my engine because of a slow oil leak. My brother was totally disgusted with me that I wasn't checking the oil regularly.

Look in the manual that comes with your car and it will tell you how often the oil and filter should be changed as well as other maintenance.

Actually, I'm in Ontario~but the information is from their National website so I would have to assume it's the same everywhere...it's 10 kilometres, actually, not even 10 miles!

CAA Scroll down for membership information.

...and don't tell anyone, but you found a good person in England! I've had that refused several times when I was a member a few years back...it is not part of the membership according to the people I talked to. I was told the membership is particular to the vehicle, not the person.

I know it is sacrilege in the Clay Nation, but I wasn't that crazy about the Clay/Quiana duet of Listen. Maybe it was because I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Angela's version, but whatever the reason it was just OK for me.

Now Kyrie I adore!

Hey couchie, TGIF!!! :F_05BL17blowkiss:

CG... you like having opposing opinions from the majority! :cryingwlaughter::cryingwlaughter: Admit it, now, don't you??? :F_05BL17blowkiss:

Hee! I honestly don't try to have opposing opinions! Its just seems to work out that way!

But wouldn't it be boring if we all always agreed with each other?? :D

I guess for me, sometimes I'm not looking for richness and fullness in a voice, it's like the difference between a really good Alfredo sauce and the lemon garlic sauce at the Culinary place - sometimes I want that bite, that freshness, that unexpected...I don't care what Quiana's given - I've got a pretty good idea what she's gonna sound like - and that's not a bad thing. But Clay and Angela will occasionally shock the shit out of me. I like that.

I tend to agree with this. I think Quiana's voice is lovely, but she does, to me, pretty much sound the same on every song. Angela may occasionally shriek (although I have always thought she sound shrieker on cellcerts and clack than she does in person) but she also seems to have more variety in her song stylings. I think she can handle the gentle song well, as I think she demonstrated during the last Christmas tour.

And I still think her version of Listen was the best either Q or A have ever done with their solos. It is the only one of their solos I have ever downloaded and listen to without being part of the other concert clack.

I have always enjoyed the chemistry between Angela and Clay...I definately think Angela and have Quiana have different roles on stage...Angela is the fun, party girl and Quiana is more like Clay's sister, friend...I remember during one WDC performance Clay tried doing some of his "Angela moves" on Quiana and it just didn't work...I just don't think Quiana is comfortable in that kind of role. So, I think Clay gets the best of both worlds when on stage...he has Angela to get tosexy with and Quiana to kind of reel him in and be sort of the moral center of the group. And yet, all three of them together really work...it is wonderful to see how much love there is between them and I really think Clay would lost on stage if either one of them left.

Kim

I totally agree with this. I cannot imagine what it would be like if one of them left.

QUESTION: What do I have to change to get emoticons, bold, colors, etc. back for a REPLY? I am using the regular REPLY, not the quick version. I have typed in many of the codes.

Besides not having any editing tools, I can't quote (page jumps to the top when you click on that), and I've had to sign in sevearl times. Each time the page holds up and I get the message to "wait while we transfer you" -- but nothing happens. The way I get back in is to sign on in another tab. Not fun, LOL!

I'm going to delete some TI files and hope this helps. Is anyone else having this problem?

Caro... that happened to me for a long while till one day I finally upgraded a bunch of Windows stuff and lo and behold it was fixed. At first FCA was the only place it was happening, then it started happening at another board, too, so... tho it scared me to death (I am not all that computer literate), I said ok to an automatic update and voila. Don't know if that is your problem, but thought I'd share.

ldyjocelyn and liney, I have been through that list two times. It is not there under Finding Clay Aiken or Invision. There are some listed with their number ID's. I guess I need to know this address.

Thnx for your help. I'm still out in the twilight zone.

Btw, I can login to the sister board. This is the address at the top: http://72.34.42.55/~fca001//index.php?opti...ge&Itemid=1

I have the safe/Internet sign on that site but restricted on this one. What a pain! Appreciate your advice. *g*

O poop...I have used that a few times in the past, actually the distant past, but I guess it's a feature they didn't want to pay for any more.

I do hardly ever use BCAA any more but have always thought of it as insurance. When I owned my first car and actually all the vehicles I owned until my kids were grown and left home and I could afford a better cars...they all tended to break down and BCAA came to my rescue so many times.

Sorry, I don't - our call centre only provides for people who have coverage purchased from the individual auto manufacturers. My only experience lies with CAA, and I guess when I come to think of it, I never needed a tow farther than my driveway to the nearest Canadian Tire store. LOL. On the highway I know I used it for gas delivery once, and a flat tire. Maybe it would be worth the extra $$ to get the deluxe coverage?

One of the perks of having a membership is that if you are in someone else's car and it breaks down you can use your membership to help the vehicle owner.

Yep, used this once too when I was in my cousin's car. So there are definite benefits, maybe just not the benefits you are looking for.

So my ds went to transfer the video from his camera to the computer, ony to find that it didn't come equipped with the proper wires. Grrrrrrrrrrrr, why don't they tell you this stuff when you buy the camera? So back to the store we went to buy a firewire. Next time I won't ass-u-me. ;)

Rib Fest was nice, but we didn't buy any ribs. We are saving our appetites for a Chinese buffet tonight. But I found a really, really cool booth there, that sells prints to raise awareness & money for people suffering from HIV & AIDs in Africa. My mom & I ended up buying two cool prints. Students in schools across Canada & Africa create these awesome collages. I took a pic of them with my digital camera:

Happy Birthday Tijala

:confetti-1::highfive::cake::manynanas: :hb2: :cheerleader:

Have a great evening!

Although I think both Quiana and Angela are wonderful people, I preferred Angela's voice most of the time. Quiana's voice is always perfect and I don't always feel the emotion from her. I'll bet she is a fantastic voice teacher though. She is the perfect duet partner for Clay when he goes more Broadway with his voice. Angela seems to do just about anything Clay asks of her. She must love him to death.

What I love about going to a Clay concert is the voice, the funny, the pure entertainment value he brings to every show. The reason I go to multiples is to witness the unexpected. I wasn't there for Listen but I adore the clack. It was one of those special unforgettable moments for me like Clay singing to his grandad and even Clay singing Without You with KLo or him falling and bouncing back up oh you get the drift. For me it wasn't about the song but about the connection between Clay and Quiana and kinda feeling I was watching them "work" and find the magic

I agree couchie. That's what makes going to more than one show of the same concert fun. I was there for "BSOB" with three of my friends for their first time. Now nothing is good enough for them compared to that performance. He really spoils people.

Enjoying the discussions as always.

I am not sure Clay would be lost on stage without Quiana and Angela. He ws superb during the JN06 tour and he played off the orchestra then. He did have jamie do the word thingy but mostly it was Clay, being just amazing. in fact that tour really brought home his versatility as a performer to me.

One of my favorite pieces of clack ever was taken by a fan at a KLo concert attended by Clay, Angela, John Dahlstrom, and Quianna. Perhaps there were others but that is all I saw in the video. They are all moving and clapping to the music and then Clay turns to Angela and starts to dance with her in an amazingly sexy way. I have never seen anything like it since, not even in the WDC numbers. Does anyone remember that bit of Clack? It is on an now dead laptop and I would love to have it again.

I totally agree. Clay takes advantage of whomever is on the stage with him. I enjoy him with his tour family and have no desire to see it change but if they aren't there, he has the band, the symphony members, the audience. He seems to be great at this to me and this is something he has always had. I'll also add that DCAT was the first time I thought they came into their own and kept up with him banter wise. It was a delight to see. Before they were more like fodder for his jokes. This time they got him back some and I loved it.

Heee I think I'm the only one that actually watched KLo at that concert...Clay was right there in front of me..I was on the second row next to his section hee.

Thanks for all the good advice!!! :thankyou:

I went and re-checked the car. The 27% part was on a message, "Engine Oil Life 27%" on the dashboard. It was in green and it's probably not the same as having only 27% of the oil left, so I have some time to decide if I want to go to a quickie place first thing tomorrow or get an appt with the dealer next week. I'm still very tempted to go with the quickie.

Look in the manual that comes with your car and it will tell you how often the oil and filter should be changed as well as other maintenance.
Unfortunately, that's the problem. Solo and KAndre both know how I difficult it is to get me to read a car manual.

I cleaned out my box of connectors and found that I had 8 extra firewire cables, in assorted combinations 6-pin to 4-pin, 4-pin to 4-pin, 6-pin to 6-pin, etc. If you haven't bought one, I could send you one. Let me know which kind via PM.

ON CB, someone is still reading Fieldnotes.

New TV series staring Ewan McGregor raises awareness for UNICEF

A new television series, “Long Way Down,” featuring actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, makes its US television premiere on Fox Reality Channel this Saturday, August 2 at 9 pm (ET/PT). Check local listings for details.

UNICEF is the official charity for "Long Way Down." During their journey from Scotland to South Africa, Ewan and Charley stopped off to visit UNICEF projects to raise awareness and funds for children.

In Ethiopia, Ewan and Charley visited mine awareness projects supported by UNICEF. They met with children who have lost limbs in mine accidents and witnessed for themselves how important it is that children are aware of the dangers from mines.

Their next stop was Gulu in northern Uganda, where they met former child soldier who had been rescued from rebel militias and saw how UNICEF supports them with medical care, counseling and vocational training.

The final UNICEF visit for Ewan and Charley was to Chimteka, a community-based child care center which helps to care for children who have been orphaned because of AIDS. Children can go to the centers every day to receive nourishing meals, basic healthcare and education. Perhaps most importantly, they are encouraged to learn and play, and have the chance to make friends and behave like children.

Oil does wear out and is not as effective in lubricating the engine...so check when you last had an oil change and figure out how many miles you've driven since then check the manual.

ok so you hate checking the manual...when you get the oil changed get them to put a sticker in your car with the mileage at the time of the change...then maybe you could get them to tell you how often you need to change the oil and mark that down on the sticker. But you really should check your oil level or get an attendant at a full service gas station to do it.

Long day at work for me. Looooooooooooooooooooooong day.

But I came across this article in the New York Times re: trolls that I found interesting (or in other words, supporting my own views). Basically, it says yes, trolls are anti-social borderline psychotic attention whores. Don't pay them any attention. Attention rewards their asinine behavior. They don't feel guilty about what they do, there is nothing you can do to make them feel guilty (see the "anti-social borderline psychotic" part). All you can do is control your reaction. If you have friends or acquaintances that fall for their BS for whatever reason (including stupid crap about Clay), IMO you have to treat them just like you would if you found out they fell for a Nigerian scan - there is an area of your friend's brain that's stupid. The heart of the matter is this:

Ultimately, as Fortuny suggests, trolling will stop only when its audience stops taking trolls seriously. “People know to be deeply skeptical of what they read on the front of a supermarket tabloid,” says Dan Gillmor, who directs the Center for Citizen Media. “It should be even more so with anonymous comments. They shouldn’t start off with a credibility rating of, say, 0. It should be more like negative-30.”

This article is absolutely fascinating. Thanks so much for linking to that. I've had dealings with those 4chan/b/ peeps. One day they thought it would be a good idea to create a kiddie porn version of the Wikipedia mascot to illustrate the lolicon article, and then had shit fits when some people thought it was a bad idea. They were hollering "censorship", "violation of free speech", and so on, and finally the creator of Wikipedia had to step in and just say "No." "It will not happen." Man, they were pissed, calling him a "God King" and all kinds of stuff. I had no idea it was a lair for trolls--just thought they were a bunch of ornery teenaged boys. I do know that they pass around a lot of drawn (as opposed to photographed) kiddie porn on 4chan/b/, or at least they used to back then.

Some more favorite quotes from the article:

The willingness of trolling “victims” to be hurt by words, he argued, makes them complicit, and trolling will end as soon as we all get over it.

But while technology reduces the social barriers that keep us from bedeviling strangers, it does not explain the initial trolling impulse. This seems to spring from something ugly — a destructive human urge that many feel but few act upon, the ambient misanthropy that’s a frequent ingredient of art, politics and, most of all, jokes. There’s a lot of hate out there, and a lot to hate as well.

Maybe that's why the jokes about Clay bother some people.... but see the quote above it.

In case anyone is wondering, Cantonese is freakin' hard.

But I think I've got "ladies toilet" or neoici down pat - though I think the program is pronouncing it "noi eee chi" instead of "nee oooo chi" like it looks like it's spelled.

Gotta get those tones right, very important. Otherwise you might be saying I want to buy some marijuana when you meant to say your horse is pretty. Could get you in trouble. Cantonese is freakin' impossible!!!!!

Great article K. I wish all of Clay Nation would read it because I think their constant engagement of trolls, whether in the fandom or outside of is, IS the biggest problem that Clay has - even bigger than stupid tabloids. Because "we" keep it alive. Unfortunately it's been 5 years and "we" haven't learned it yet.

Call me cynical, but I’ve come to believe that large segments of this fandom will never learn. Hell, the XF and/or David Duchovny fandom had the exact same problems, but it took a relatively short time for the majority of the fandom to LEARN not to feed the trolls. And, frankly, I think DD had scarier issues than any I’ve heard of for Clay.

I think the Clay Nation had trolldom pretty much down for a long time, until the heavy duty crazies got involved, the bloggers and so forth. Then everything that had been learned was forgotten.

Heh. I just got back from watching Mamma Mia the Movie - it was fun, though not as fun as when the eHP did Broadway (the eHP was seriously participatory!)

But I mainly went to watch Pierce Brosnan - who is my actor's equivalent of Clay except I don't actually chase him around the country. That man is the definition of "Oh damn he's fine!" to me. I even like him scruffy looking. But DANG the boy can't sing. CAN NOT SING. He's lucky he's got so much pretty because I admit I was saying, "People, please. Some performances cry OUT to be dubbed with someone who can like...you know...SING."

Love him anyway. But in a way, Clay has him beat. Because Clay can occasionally look white-hot No lie. "Take me, baby - I'm yours H-O-T" (Not most of the time for me, but occasionally). But he sings like a frickin' angel all the time. Now, Pierce? Got it going ON in the looks department. All the time. Even when he was supposed to be tortured in a Soviet prison and all bruised and grungy and dirty, he was still the hottest thing on two legs. Even in that skin tight sky blue atrocity he was in at the end of the movie. But he sings like the southbound end of a northbound mule. I swear I didn't even recognize "SOS" when he started "singing" it. Hoo boy. Somebody shoulda warned me.

I love what you wrote here about Clay. :F_05BL17blowkiss: More on Pierce below.

KAndre, while I've not seen Mama Mia!, I can totally agree with Pierce Brosnan in the Hawt department. He really is a fine, fine specimen of man. Fell hard for him with Remington Steele, and have loved him ever since. I've heard that about his singing though. Oh well, he tried. Hee.

KAndre... I totally agree about Pierce. He did a movie called Dante's Peak and I bought the cd with the Making Of on it and watch it just to watch Pierce being casual in jeans... GAH, he looks FINE!!! I loved him in Remington Steele and haven't even seen any of the newer Bond movies cause to me Pierce was the best Bond of them all. :cryingwlaughter:

I am also madly crazily in love with Pierce Brosnan, going back to Remington Steele. OMG how I loved Remington Steele. And add me to the list of Bond boycotters. I've heard the new guy is fantastic, but I can't bring myself to let Pierce go. I saw Mama Mia too, and he really cannot sing. HAHA.

My brother talked me into going to see WALL-E last night, and it's actually really good. Very sweet, entertaining, a "message" that doesn't hit too hard. Fun for all ages.

I can't really add much to the Angela/Quiana discussion -- there have been times when I've loved them, there have been times where I wasn't quite as enamored. I think something to remember with much of this, though, is -- when and how did you first hear them? Was it live? Was it via cellcert? Was the venue sound in general good? IMO, it's fine if you don't like a particular voice for someone who works with Clay in concert, but I always feel that I need to at least give it a shot LIVE before I really do give an opinion. And of course, things change on a day-to-day basis anyway. IMO, gotta keep an open mind...

I think Angela's voice is difficult to record--it's always better in person than in any other form.

That's a whole different story. Whew. I don't see any problem with going with the quickie as long as your car is a model that they're likely to have the right parts for in stock.

Did ya miss me? Did ya? Did Ya? No I didn't think so!!

Well I made the second leg of my literary trek!! We took the Amtrak to Boston which was great except for the guy behind us who was talking so loud even Clay on my iPod could not drown him out.

I cannot believe how many ads I saw, in NY, for Drew Lachey and not one for the other guy!

I felt sure there would be something exciting when I logged on tonight but no you guys are talking about oil changes.

Oh well back to my Lobster Roll, Lobster Bisque and Boston Creme Pie!

I'm hooooooooooooome.

Muski - it took me a second to figure out which letter you wanted to leave out of plants (okay, I'm tired and it's been a long day) and then I went "HELLOOOOO" it must be pants! I would love to be at one with the pants but I'd probably scare the living bejesus out of the guy in them! If we're talking about the same pants, and I think we are!

I don't find Quiana's voice predictable at all. I think she has a beautiful voice and sings with alot of passion. And I definitely prefer her voice to KLo's.... she sings with alot less effort IMO. I do find Angela shreaky - and her high notes make the fillings in my teeth vibrate. BUT - having said that, I think she has one of the best backup voices. And while my favorite song of hers is Black Velvet....it's probably because Clay's harmony with it is just flat-out awesome!!! That man can sing! (but I bet y'all knew that!) I would agree that Listen is hands down the best song I've heard her sing. I went to her website awhile back and listened to the songs that were on there and was unimpressed. But I think it's like any other singer - they have to have the right songs. However, some of the best laughs I've had at a Clay concert were due to the interaction between Clay and Angela. They are hysterical together. For those of you at the Greek last year, when he sat down and put his arm around her and looked at her family in the audience and said "SURPRISE" I thought I was going to pee my pantalones.

Oil changes - I go to those Oilcan Henry places or Jiffy Lube. I have to laugh though - they always show you an air filter with a foxtail stuck in it - to show you yours needs to be changed. I think it's standard issue when they buy the franchises. Hee! I see that same foxtail every time.

Now - just a thought! Isn't it going to be knock-down-drag-out hysterically funny if it isn't true and all these magazines have gone on record numerous times with their "confirmed" story? I love the picture in OK but they could have worded the caption alot differently with more emphasis on what Clay was doing and why he was in Somalia! I guess that wouldn't sell mags though. Sheesh.

ETA: Ah my sweet babbooo - read your owner's manual and learn how to check the level of oil in your car! It will save you a headache! Do you know what to pull to get the hood open???
