Ya' know, I remember that interview about his lip-syncing after the piano OYs and my impression was that he was taking something he did occasionally and making it sound like he did it all the time to make fun of himself as he very frequently does.

They say, "That is a great number and you do a fantastic job on it." and he responds with, "Oh, I am just mouthing the words to get my breath, since I'm so out of shape and all." (not real words, just my feeling of them).

Only he and Tom Deckman knows for sure, but I'd be surprised if he really did lip-sync all the time on that number. JMHO

When he's in a kidding mood, I take most of what he says about himself with a grain of salt.

merrieeee... thanks for bringing that over. Good for Kelly! She and Ruben have stuck by him through everything and that counts big for me! Class people attract class people... except when they don't. :cryingwlaughter:

Kelly seems pretty cool;

Your friend and former tourmate Clay Aiken recently came out of the closet. What is your reaction to that? Did you have any conversations with him prior to his declaration?

I was actually on vacation when I found out. He called and he just said, “You’ll probably get a lot of calls about this, but I just wanted to give you a heads up." I honestly don’t care if he is gay or isn’t gay, and I don’t care if he tells people or doesn’t tell people. I’m not friends with him for either of those reasons. If I’m a fan of an artist, I don’t really care if you’re gay or not gay, as long as you’re making cool music.

Have you met his son, Parker, yet?

Oh, yeah! I went to actually see [Clay] in 'Spamalot' in New York. Me and my manager and some friends met [Parker]. A lot of my friends work with Clay, as well -- it’s kind of a tight-knit group.

Hee I'm waiting for the......."Oh he told her but he didn't tell us" posts to start!

That is a good article. I love Kelly. And it would make sense if he told her. That have been friends for a long time.

Honest to God, that same thought crossed my mind when I read the interview, LOL!

I like that picture of the two of them, even if it is kind of old... there probably aren't that many newer pictures of them together. Plus, I really loved the glasses and the hair... and the black... They're very cute together!

Oh yeah.... HOW DARE HE TELL KELLY BEFORE HE TOLD MEEEEE?????? I'M LEAVING THE FANDOM!!! Well, you know, until I find something new to bitch about interminably...

ETA: You know what I do wonder, why would Clay even come up in that interview? I mean, I hadn't heard them as being connected for a long time--since the IT anyway.

Here's the write up on the Sir Robin bear. (annabear, I think you should take notes on this bear...)
Hee! Already emailed myself & mamabear the blurb about the details of Sir Robin Bear's tux. :P Also already have a folder in my photos of Mr. Aiken in his tux - must study all the details, you know..... binoculars_animated2.gif

It came up for the exact reason stated - she is his friend and former tourmate and she's related to idol. Doesn't seem a surprising question - usally being related to Idol is all that's needed.

I have slept the day away. Carpet still not shampooed. Lord it's easy to procrastinate these days.

Annabear LOL... 1076 beads? Good luck with that :cryingwlaughter:

Tina Turner always sang live, you could hear it in her voice that she was singing AND dancing to a fast beat. ( I have seen her in concert several times, once with Ike, then on her own).

ETA: It is probably unfair of me to say that only a real singer sings live. It is a well-known fact that Barbra Streisand's greatest fear was singing live, her studio albums were always so incredible. But I have some LIVE albums, from concerts and some of them are amazing. I have a Sammy Davis Jr LIVE album, and it is fantastic.

I don’t think you can compare the Superbowl to any other concert event. There are just too many valid reasons why they would have people lip sync. The same reason why the Thanksgiving Day parade is always lipsync’d by *everyone* - including Clay. I think it’s even a requirement - I seem to recall a big debate on the boards at the time. The Bare Naked Ladies are apparently so unaccustomed to lip syncing that they TOTALLY screwed up at the parade a couple years ago - they stopped even trying to sing along with their music. Imagine a bunch of guys laughing and the singing still happening. <g> It was pretty funny. Maybe that was even their way of protesting - who knows.

As for Britney and Xtina – well, sorry, if you’re in a concert that is a CONCERT and people paid to see YOU, then I think you should sing. If you can’t sing and dance at the same time, then maybe one or the other should go – and you should never do Broadway. <g> That said – I have heard Xtina and Beyonce (and Fergie, for that matter) actually SING and they all three have great voices, IMO. I actually found it surprising. Britney? Not so much.

Like others have said, there is the idol connection and the tour, etc. Besides, after Clay came out even random people at Red Carpets were being asked what they thought about it - I would imagine most were surprised to be asked. Hell, I almost expected Baba Wawa and/or Larry King or James Lipton to ask about that as a routine question!

I always loved Xtina's voice the most, of all the "divas". Except for the overdone melisma at times.

Of course, I think waaaaaay back to when I sorta liked Buffy Ste. Marie - maybe I used up all my tolerance for the warbly stuff!

If I am going to pay $75 or more to see a concert, than I expect the artist to sing live...that is what they are promoting...otherwise, I could just stay home and listen to a CD.

I think that people go to concerts for many reasons and one reason for going to say, a Madonna show, or Beyonce or Christina A. is that they are more spectaculars than simple singing ballads concerts with a band or orchestra.

There's flashing lights, dancers, pyrotechnics and thousands of enthusiastic jumping fans.

Half the time the audience has difficulty even hearing the lyrics ...it's the excitement of the whole experience for which they are happy to pay $75 +.

Beyonce's superbowl SSB was also lipsyching I do believe. I pretty much know who can sing for real and who can't. Are Brittany's concerts even live? LOL. Hell the fabulous instrumental at the inauguration was a recording but not because they couldn't do it live but it was too cold for their instruments.

Today's math problem -- now that I have left bottlecap in my dust :cryingwlaughter: I need 1274 posts to pass Ansa.

Let's see.. A*B+C/D*E if E=EEEEEEEEEEE

key:

A: postho

B: no job

c: number of posts per day

D. Clay taking an extended break

E and EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE: summer tour

If it's D -- by my birthday in June

If E =EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - next week

Between yesterday and today math has become fun. :cryingwlaughter:

Hands couchie a steaming bowl of rice, "Here, maybe this'll help!"

I'll pay $75 for music -- soft music, loud music, but some kind of music . Lights and pyrotechnics I can get for free on the Fourth of July. Lip-synching I guess I can get a TV if I ever need to hear a sample.

Speaking of needing to hear, has it only been a week? Aaaaaargh!

This is me too. I guess I like to actually hear the singing/words... going to see Rascal Flatts with my sis on Saturday and I'm hoping to hear them sing... no idea what their show is supposed to be like but since they sing a number of ballad type songs, I hope that I'll be able to hear them sing the softer stuff... looking forward to the faster, fun stuff too...

claytonic Did we talk about Sammy Davis Jr. before? I thought he had the most incredible voice. In college, my friends and I would sit in our dorm rooms listening to our favorite album of his. His voice was absolutley my favorite from the rat pack group.

I posted the following on CV and got one response (and a very good one at that). But I would like to hear some of your thoughts on this. It has to do with Clay's musical influences.

One thing that has always intrigued me about Clay are his musical influences. He really never seemed to enjoy talking about those things very much as when an interviewer would ask him that question early one he would often reply something to the effect that he has been asked that question a zillion times (my exaggeration).

Sometimes he did come out and say something - I have seen James Taylor, Jon Secada, Peter Cetera mentioned early on. But in later years, it seems I had to get clues from statements he made about his music. For example, when doing the Broken Wings for ATDW he mentioned they were going for an Evervesence vibe, I believe. I thought, is this group an influence? (Interestingly I heard one of their songs today - not a recent one - and it had some spoken language in it-never noticed that before).

I recall from the OMWH promo that he mentioned at least twice that one of the songs he did had a James Morrison vibe, or was it Morrissey (lead singer of an English group, the Smiths). He said something about the person being British, but that doesn't help because they are both British. Is this a current influence for Clay? And does anyone remember where he talked about this?

Does anyone have any thoughts about what they see as current influences for Clay?

I just got home. Got a call from my brother-in-law this morning--stop whatever you are doing and come now! My mother had fallen getting up this morning, and he found her lying on the floor when he got there today. 5 hours in the emergency room, and she's back home with a brace on her knee. Watching the three of us (he called my sister too) get her into my car and to the hospital was a hoot--but we did better than they did at the hospital, where they scraped her leg somehow getting her out of the car and she bled all over the place. A woman no bigger than me was trying to lift her, and ignoring this great big guy who showed up right after her. He ended up trying to help from behind the wheelchair, which made no sense.

I can't believe the amount of time we had to just sit and wait and wait and wait. They were going to bring her a pain pill but forgot--2 hours later we had to remind them. We couldn't feed her without a doctor's permission, and that took another hour to get. Someone said they would bring her another blanket towards the end when she was getting cold, but it never happened. ARGH!!!!

So now she can't walk on her own, but we should be getting some home care help starting tomorrow. My brother-in-law is the only one strong enough to actually lift her, so he's exhausted from getting her up, getting her to the bathroom, getting her into the car, getting her out of the car, back to the bathroom, into the bed. And then he had to drive to Creedmoor and feed the dogs, and drive back to Raleigh to lift her some more. Gawd I wish for the good old days when doctors made house calls!

Hopefully once the swelling goes down she'll be OK again. They couldn't find anything on the X-ray but some arthritis in her knee. She said it just gave way, as best she remembers. Next step, an orthopedic specialist. If it doesn't miraculously get better on its own.

So we got her home and then I went to fill her prescription for pain medicine, but the pharmacy didn't have any Darvon, which is what they prescribed, so the pharmacist tried to call to get them to change it to Darvacet, but we waited over half an hour and they never returned her call. So finally she got the idea to send me to another pharmacy that she called first.

And a cheer for my old mom, who's 95 and fell, and unlike most old folks who fall, didn't break her hip or anything else. She didn't have much fun today, but at least she's back home and hopefully will be all better soon.

And a hooray for my sister and brother-in-law. I couldn't handle it on my own. On the other hand, caretaking by committee is a bitch.

And boo because I couldn't work today and I'll never make my deadline tomorrow.

very interesting questions

I felt the CD on OMWH had Christian music feel to some of the songs.

At the meadow brook concert he said he was excited to be on the same stage as Allison (can't right now remember her last name) who recently went on tour w/ Robert Plant.

I will bring over his AI profile which I find interesting as well.
