Wool caps are good. You don't want anything that will blow off if the winter wind is blowing! And covering the ears is good too.

(This brought to you by someone who never wears a hat less it ruins her hair....)

Gloves are hugely important. Mittens are warmer than gloves, but cut down on your dexterity.

If it gets REALLY cold, you may want one of those face mask thingies.... :cryingwlaughter:

Ok I got the layers, scarves, gloves, coat over kidney bit..but when you say hats... what we talkin'? :cryingwlaughter::cryingwlaughter: My mom is coming in with winter wear and she just gave me a knit cap and I just don't see it. Can I wear something more 2007?

rent the movie Fargo and think of Frances McDormand's hat...or just run from heater to heater like I do in the winter...and carry a pair of earmuffs for emergencies.

December in Minnesota is not that bad. January sucks the life out of you.

There are skyways in Minneapolis, so you really don't even have to go outside. If you do, it will be for a short time.

I like ear muffs and hoods. They don't mess up your hair. :lipstick:

I'm big on scarves that cover my neck and ears and part of my face if I want them too. And hoodies. If it's cold enough, I'll do a hat, any kind, and won't care what it looks like or what it does to my hair. Vanity goes right out the window when it's cold.

:ohthedrama: <---- I hope this is a sooper-dooper industrial strength emoticon, because I see the potential for it's getting a lot of use if Clay is/isn't at Ruben's concert, if he does/doesn't get enough face time at Sedaka, if they do/don't edit him well on 5th Grader, if he does/doesn't sign on for Spamalot, if a CD drops in 'early' 2008, if it drops in late 2008, if it doesn't drop in 2008, if he tours next summer, but not in the right cities , if he sings traditional songs for the Christmas tour, if he sings contemporary songs for the Christmas tour, if if if if if....... :cryingwlaughter:

:cryingwlaughter: It's oh so true. We can get a lot of use out of that one.

JMH..I hope you go..just in case Clay joins him for a song.

I dunno. The fair is a huge hassle. If only I knew I would see him. I'm not sure a possible sighting is big enough incentive. The traffic will be outrageous for the fair from the direction I am coming from. And there's no way around it--the back road will be just as bad. If I were already at my mom's, or went there early enough in the day, maybe, but I'm not sure I want to do that. As for going just because Clay wants me to, to support Ruben? I'm impervious to that one. Sawwy Clay.

To everyone dealing with illness...please remember to also take care of yourselves. You are also going through an emotional draining and difficult time. If you have the added component of being a caregiver please remember that you must also continue to take time for yourself!!

A good reminder for me personally - thanks so much Couchie :F_05BL17blowkiss:

(((((zena and friend))))) and (((((dear, dear Clayzorback & hubby)))))

I think Clay will be there tomorrow (oops, make that today) - to help put some butts in some seats - it's all good.

Morning, all! I wish I knew how to sleep in, but I don't.....we had dinner last night with the lovely FromClaygary, and then headed up to the sold-out Amanda Marshall concert at Casino Rama. What a great experience that was, and with so many little Clay parellels. The first was when she announced she was wearing spanx, I just about fell out of my seat laughing. Then she talked about what it's like to lose your anonymity. There were other things too, but most importantly, she probably has the most powerful and consistent female voice I've ever heard. She definitely could give Clay a run for his money! At the end of the concert, she told us that it's been much too long since she's done this (4 years since she's performed in concert or had a record out) so she promised to see us "soon". Hee, the audience response was just what you'd expect at a Clay concert if he left us hanging like that....people shouting "When????". And then on the way out of the venue, overhearing person after person exclaiming "I knew she was good, but I had no idea she was THAT good!". If you've never heard of her, it would definitely be worth your while to check some of her stuff out. I hope she doesn't disappear for too long this time.

P.S. Hey Clay, this venue would be perfect for you! Holds about 5,000. ;)

In other words, business as usual in Clay Land. :clay:

You forgot if he does/doesn't give us a huge/meaningful/earth-shattering bit of news this week (and beginning at 12:01 am, that he doesn't deliver fast enough. Dance, Monkey Boy! Dance!!). As per usual, by the time he does tell us his surprise, the speculation will be so far out of hand that nothing short of a Spring CD (with bonus DVD) followed by a 50 state tour will suffice. :lmaosmiley-1:

luckiest1, sounds like a great concert! I'm glad it was all you hoped it would be. I love it when that happens.

Happy birthday, laughn!!!

Luckiest1 & family, FromClaygary, glad you had a great time!

Also, be sure your coat is long enough to cover your kidneys...no down ski coats that only come to the waist or hip. Be sure it's at least crotch length if not mid-thigh. I can't remember where I read that having a coat long enough to cover your kidneys is a must in frigid weather, but I've found it to be true.
Pssst, can we keep this to ourselves? We don't want the cute guy on the banner to hear about it because in his case, down ski coats that only come to the waist or hip would be preferable.

6.gifHats can be easy and quick to make. If there's an iGallop party someplace *coughKAndre'scough* (eg. so the other eHP members can have a go), hats could get knitted/crocheted at the same time. Some patterns for the oughts zeroes:

Warm Cap with Brim - free pattern (crochet)

New York Hat - free pattern (knit)

Hip Hats and Cool Caps - on Amazon (crochet)

Hip Knit Hats - on Amazon (knit)

Yep, except you forgot the engagement announcement...hee. :clay:

Some things you can count on like an abacas. I expect that it will be a regular angstapalooza no matter what. I've already seen posters speculating about the EXCITING news that Clay PROMISED us. Not that I have a problem with a bit of speculating but I don't recall being "promised" anything and I'm pretty sure the word Clay used was "fun". Sort of a build up from the original...no?

---

Winter wear. As a rule I spend little time outside when it's really cold. I go from the house, to the attached garage to the parking lot at work. It's a short run to the door at work and I'm warm again. Reverse in the evening. The only time I really dress for the weather is if I'm out shoveling. But in general I prefer knit or wool headbands under a hood and driving gloves. I always have more stuff in the car...just in case.

Fargo the movie always CMSU. I mean they drive along all bundled up like there are no heaters in the cars....bwah. Trust me, you'd roast your butt off wearing a coat and that hat in the car.

What a great concert last night! Made even more special by being able to share it with friends.

I HAVE perfected the art of sleeping in, unfortunately; unfortunately, because I've gotten so good at it I want to do it every day in the winter!

And soon I have to be off to work....(sigh)

Although, I did mention to luckiest1 that it was a weeeeird feeling to look around at an audience...and not know everyone! :lmaosmiley-1:

Scarlett, is it wrong to want to come to Minneapolis just to get one of those hats?

Best available single ticket for Ruben now at N05-O-seat 25, which is high on the side most of the way to the back. I think he's done it! I think that's fantastic.

Just how many relatives DOES Clay have, anyway?? (no disrespect to Ruben intended at ALL)

Good luck to those going to the fair for both traffic and seeing Clay!

I grew up in IL and was an idiot in HS. I would go to the HS football games in hose and flats and no hats and just about die from the cold, but I didn't want not to look kewl, so I just looked cold. I'm lucky I didn't lose some toes... :cryingwlaughter: How did we ever survive to adulthood???

Couchie... love the new emoticons! Thanks!

Scarlett..wow those aren't my mother's knit caps :cryingwlaughter:

Thanks for all the cold tips. I'm gonna listen to Thankful and not worry about it. I just realized that if there's one kind of good karma I have it's good weather karma...now granted it's usually the heat that breaks during the summer when I travel east but I'm sure it will hold over to winter too LOL.

Happy Birthday LAUGHN Have a wonderful day.

Judging by the sights I've seen at football games at my dd's high school, things haven't changed much. Except that instead of hose and flats, they wear flip flops and their bellies are hanging out between their itty bitty shirts and low rider jeans. :cryingwlaughter:

Happy Birthday, laughn!!! :00003653:
