Annabear - that quilt is beautiful. You must finish it. And Kareneh - who knew!!! Your basement room sounds heavenly. When I moved permanently to this mountain house I was going to convert a bedroom into a complete sewing room but my g-daughter took offense to me removing her twin bed. It's "HER" room. But one of these days she'll not mind and I'll have the whole room redecorated for just sewing. I do think quilting is something you can put down and pick up again years later and get right back in to it! I haven't been sewing much because I've been doing other things but sometimes I just play in my stash - rearranging, refolding etc. It's an addiction. You know that saying - the person who dies with the most fabric...wins!

Well I wonder when the cutesingerman is going to blog on the UNICEF site. Or if there will be video footage of him. Waiting....waiting.....waiting......

Been listening to OMWH most of the afternoon and realized there are way too many words that I like hearing him sing to even mention. I think it's that special way he pronounces them with his accent.............

All you quilting ladies are so talented! I am SO not a quilter or anything like that. Sewing gives me nightmares! Cooking is my thing -- maybe I should have taken a picture of the Country Style Short Ribs that I marinated and my husband grilled tonight? Plus cornbread (homemade), baked beans (sadly, from a can) and steamed zucchini?

Do you ever see a picture and it just screams LOL Clay to you? Just me? Alrighty then...

DCATAshevilleLOL.jpg

bottlecap -- BWAH!!! I love LolCats. Hmmmm...I may have to go through my Clay picture collection and see if I can create a few...

I think it's time for a nap after my great dinner.

Clay content? Hmmm. I'd love to cook for Clay....

muski, I saw those letters online. I was pleased....

Happy birthday, Fear! :00003653:

Unfortunately, or is that fortunately, I have not a creative bone in my body. The best I can do is to write the occasional song parody and make bad photoshops. So you all are spared seeing my efforts. I applaud everyone who can quilt, knit, take Clack, etcetera! I can, however, cook well enough to keep from starving.

ldj Another thing we have in common; I like to cook too and am a Food Network junkie! I am always trying new recipes which sometimes the family likes and sometimes not so much. I just find cooking relaxing.

OK, I'm missing something...what "Southern gentleman" thing did Ruben not do? Especially if the comment "his mama didn't teach him so well" goes along with it?

I was thinking the same thing! I didn't see any gentlemanly faux pas!

ETA:

Ruben - I wondered at first, when I saw him drop her hand, but then I realized she dropped his hand to grab her skirt to go up or down a little step. Maybe he could have put his hand to her back, but I didn't see any big faux pas on his part.

I think Ruben's Mama did raise him right. He has always struck me as very polite.

Dropping her hand so she could lift up her skit and then not helping her like she is a little old lady is supposed to be ungentlemanly??? Maybe its because I am a crass Northerner, but I still see nothing ungentlemanly about what Ruben did - or didn't do.

And I agree. I think Ruben's Mama did raise him right. He has always seemed like a polite, gentle, caring man - sort of like someone else we know.

OK, I'm missing something...what "Southern gentleman" thing did Ruben not do? Especially if the comment "his mama didn't teach him so well" goes along with it?

I was just referring to his body language really...not taking her arm, no hand behind the back...you know all the little sweet gentlemanly things Clay does automatically? Also his walking ahead of her for much of the way~Clay would NEVER have done that. And the Mama reference was in comparison only....I of course have NO idea what his Mama taught him. I just thought the body language was interesting.

How do you know Clay would have taken her arm or put his hand behind her back? Have we ever seen Clay in this same situation? How do you know so definitely that Clay would NEVER walk in front of her much of the way? I have seen many pictures of Clay walking with women where he is leading the way. Maybe this situation is different, but since we have never seen Clay is this situation, how do we know that Clay wouldn't have done the same thing. And I would be willing to bet that there has been more than one occasion where Clay has not been a southern gentleman!

Maybe I am getting the wrong idea from all this, but it just sounds to me like another instance of the old "Clay is better than Ruben" competition!

But then again, maybe its just because I am in a shitty mood.....

:bday: FEAR!

Another Cancer checking in......

I hate that its Sunday night and tomorrow is Monday!! At least its a short week.

I can't quilt at all. Don't think I would have the patience. But I love quilts and am in awe of all of you who who do it so well! A friend of mine quilts and made me one. This is it. Of course, Waldo is covering up most of it.....

I think she explained herself already... I accept it. It's not like this is a hotbed for Ruben hate. Lotta love actually.

I'm trying the rum and coke allergy remedy. If it doesn't work, maybe I'll pass out until morning.

ETA: Spent the afternoon at my neice's official birthday party. It was at this aquatic facility with water slides and wading pools and all sorts of fun water stuff. Well if the kid wanted to get in the deeper end of the pool they had to pass a swim test which was swiming freestyle from one side to the other. And my little lioness..although too short to actually go on the big slide wanted to take the test anyway and she passed. YAY. Now she just has to grow a few inches.

Hope it works for ya, Couchie!

All you quilting people, just STOPIT!

You are making me feel seriously SLACK!!!

I haven't been able to isolate words/phrases sung by Mr. Aiken, either. Most of my favs have been mentioned. I just like hearing the dude sing!

and talk.

and laugh.

It's crazy windy here. We're not getting much rain, just a drizzle, but the wind is NUTS!

DH had good luck the last two trips on the casino boat - so I almost have enough $$ for the single ticket at the Gala! If I can just get lucky enough to get through before they sell out. I'm sure they won't have many!!

DH so sweetly shares when he wins, but doesn't dock me when he loses! :cryingwlaughter: Cool, huh?! He gives me "Clay Money" when he has a good night!

Latah, y'all! I'm tired.

Gonna read my book till I fall asleep, I think!

Sorry I didn't make it into the WOTW discussion.

More beautiful quilts, annabear and merrieeee! And all those of you who say that your talent is cooking- I'm in awe of you! I can barely boil water.

I just had to listen to 45 minutes of my son showing me all of his favorite bands on youtube- heavy metal and screaming rock- YUCK! I'm gonna have to go up to my room and turn on Clay :whistling-1: to clear out my ears.

Man, the weekends go way too quickly.

I really don't sense any Clay vs. Ruben on this board. I'm happy they've been able to maintain their friendship when Rube had every reason to resent the hell out of the notoriety Clay got from AI and his success. Ruben strikes me as a good ol' boy who's just as happy singing to a few people in a bar as a bunch of people at a venue. Don't know that for a fact....just get that sense. I hope he and the Mrs. have a long and loving life together and that his next CD is a hit. Wasn't he supposed to be touring with Frenchie in Ain't Misbehavin? Is that already over?

And I hope that someday we'll see a picture of Clay walking into the church with his soon-to-be-wife - no matter where he's walking...in front of her, behind her, or shoulder to shoulder. Right now that picture would be most welcome!!!!

Couchie - get thee to a doctor and get a prescription. Seriously. The air quality isn't going to clear up any time soon and rum and coke doesn't work well as a decongestant!!!! Of course if you have enough you really don't care!!!! :imgtongue:

I can not believe how gorgeous all the quilts are. I can not sew, and running a machine is taboo.

Yesterday my oldest son called me to tell me he was at one of his rental homes and apparently they skipped out. When he went into the back yard a dog came at him and bit him. I told him he had to go to ER to get it checked out and he needed a tentanous shot. He went and when it was reported to the police they decided that the dog had no collar on so they had no idea whether he has had his shots, so now my son has to go through the rabies shots. Got his first one yesterday and will have to have several more.

I love the way he sings the words round, round, round in WOTW. I really enjoy this song. Come to think about it, there is not one song I do not like on the CD. I usually do not skip any.

There seem to be quite a few FCA women who share the Cancer zodiac sign....

Wonder what that means?

That we are a bunch of crabs?

:cryingwlaughter:

OMG Scarlett (sweetie!) Wainwright's version of Hallelujah is one of my very favoritest non-Clay songs. :F_05BL17blowkiss: You listen to that song and think Leonard Cohen and then you listen to Song for Bernadette and you wonder what Cohen was thinking.......what a songwriter. The man is a genius.

He is indeed. Don't forget Suzanne, made famous by Judy Collins--great song.

Happy birthday, FearofH2O

gbm... scary! Glad he's ok. In my youth, rabies shots were painful. I'm sure they are much better these days.

All the pretty quilts. I have a few that were left to me by an adopted gramma from Kentucky. They were totally hand done. Very impressive, everyone! In my heyday, I learned coil basketry, and sewed prom dresses for my daughters and their friends, but other than that, my greatest talent is appreciating others' talents! I applaud really well!!! :cryingwlaughter:

I sewed many of my clothes when I was younger, and made matching clothes for my daughters when they were little, too. I also knitted and crocheted for awhile, and made a couple of small quilts as gifts. But then I got busy with all of my kids activities, and the crafty stuff kinda went by the wayside.

I got even busier when I started playing piano for a couple of groups, and then more and more people asked me to play for them. So, I guess music is my creative and artistic outlet for now. And the nice thing is that I get paid for it!!

piano.gif

My next fun thing I want to take on is to learn to play my 12-string guitar a bit better. I've always enjoyed playing it, and want to be able to play more. It's hard enough to tune 12 strings, let alone play the thing! But it's fun, and it's a new challenge.

I'm looking forward to the new UNICEF coverage. I'd love to see another pic like this one:

*sigh* Where did the weekend go? Can't believe I didn't get anything done, not even laundry -- and it's OMWH's fault. Oh, well, maybe next week.

I was just going to say - you couldn't possibly be apprehensive about Shadow!!! I don't think there is a mean, or even grumpy, bone in his body!

And you never would have been afraid of my Max. He was a sweetie - although he did once sort of snap at muski, but he was very old and sleeping and she may have touched his back feet, which he hated. But it was only a warning snap. He never would have hurt her!

This is Max:

2004_0717Image0028.jpg

And this is his shrine. His ashes are in the blue box under the St. Francis of Assisi painting. I made the box specially for him.

I miss my Max.....

I was also missing Spamalot a lot today. I still think that was my most favorite thing Clay ever did!! I also loved going to NY to see plays. In fact, my lurker friend (FCA's 1000th member - who has yet to post..... :F_05BL17blowkiss: ) and I are thinking of going one weekend t his summer. Anyone have any ideas of shows to see?

I need to get to bed. Its very humid here and my air conditioners still are not in. Maybe that's one reason I am in a shitty mood.

Awww...yep. Shadow is a great doggie for newbies...he's such a gentle, welcoming doggie. He's basically just a slut for love...just wants somebody to keep petting him. When you stop, he'll nudge you to regain your attention. Sit right there next to you on the sofa whether you want him to or not...heh.

When I was in fifth grade, I did that potholder thing, you guys know what I'm talking about? Stretching those loops over a frame to make a potholder? Then the craft thing was crocheting---I've actually crocheted a couple of shawls in my lifetime and I crocheted a baby blanket for MuskiDaughter #1. Of course, the colors were a creamy white, a muted blue and a rich red. No pastels for moi or moi's baby---no way! :cryingwlaughter:

When I was living alone for the first time in my own apartment I began to knit, sorta teaching myself with a book. Started a sweater. Didn't finish it because it drove me nuts to knit for an hour and then realize that I screwed up somewhere earlier and I had to unravel and redo. Not my style.

My creative endeavors run more toward the writing area, although I haven't done that in a long time, either. And I used to sing in a chorale and loved it but I'm not doing that anymore either. Never learned to play an instrument after my stepfather made me stop my lessons after a year. So what's been my excuse for the last 33 years, you ask?

yeah....that

ETA: forgot to say that I also at one point in my life began guitar lessons. Then I sprained by left thumb doing something and never took it up again.

Do you sense a pattern here? :glare:

BWAH! :cryingwlaughter: Shiness on CH posted this link that a friend sent her. It's to a page about prairie dogs...but look at the first picture and hold your mouse over it...some text will appear.

BWAH! :lmaosmiley-1:

Oh, no he DIDn't!

OMG, Hilarious – and so timely since I have Wii arms right now!!

Nah, I understand the "Clay's so wonderful" moments - it's just...I dunno. For most of the video, Ruben's holding her hand until she shakes it loose to hold up her dress - sort of like every wedding I've been to where the bride is in all that white - he gets a little ahead of her coming down the steps and then he holds the door while she goes through. Not a lack of courtesy as much as whew - love and marriage. And I think Ruben was carrying a handkerchief - considering it was late June in Alabama - HOT probably doesn't even begin to cover it. And Clay does sometimes guide a woman - but like most guys, unless something's happening, she's on her own - that "California model look with the mandals" with Jamie trailing behind immediately comes to mind...the mama thing did sort of trip a trigger for me because at least in my circles, saying your mother didn't raise you right is really, really bad. And I didn't think Ruben (or his mama deserved that) from a 30-second clip. Maybe I'm lucky enough to hang around a lot of "southern gentlemen" - but what Clay does and the amount that he does doesn't strike me as particularly unusual. The comments sort of pinged in the same way those "Clay is a diva" ones do - and a little of the damning with faint praise.

Yeah, I’m with you.

I'm not sure it's possible to judge whether someone is a gentleman or not from a short video--

Not to mention that being a gentleman with manners doesn't make someone a good person. My X has wonderful manners. He's still a lowlife-allergic-to-work-abandoned-his-kids slug.

:::sigh::: Yes. Also true. Stereotypes are problematic. Always.

I was also missing Spamalot a lot today. I still think that was my most favorite thing Clay ever did!! I also loved going to NY to see plays. I miss Spamalot too, and I also believe it was the best thing Clay ever did. As for what to see? Well, I am wondering about this myself. I became re-addicted to Broadway thanks to Spamalot. I’d like to see Equis with Daniel Radcliffe if it didn’t make me feel like a dirty older woman. <g> I’d like to see Spring Awakening and Boeing Boeing, the latter for Bradley Whitford whom I love. I dunno, the list is long.

Can I just say that I got my hopes up when I saw ten new pages since I last posted? :::sigh::: Not that ya’ll aren’t great and everything, but I really miss my boyfriend.
