Scarlett, I love lumpia... you know my neice and nephew are part Filipino so I get my share of that at family gatherings. But I don't know how to make it. But I'm on this new cooking kick. My chow mein turned out pretty good so yay. And I know I can make it better next time. What I like the most is it takes all of ten minutes and I used the leftover turkey and pork roast. I think I will invade the Asian market next week. I'm into this.

So in the kids say the darndest things department.. my neice (6 years old) ..wait first back story..my nephew (9) went to HI the day after xmas to hang with his cousin - and his auntie that escorted him over left her convertible mercedes at my sister's house. Of course my brother in law has been driving it all over town :cryingwlaughter: and my neice loves the two seater with the top down and the driving around town she's been doing with dad. So when my sister came over tonight, my neice wanted her mom to drive the mercedes and my sister was trying to explain to her why she didn't want to drive the car. She had an answer for everything-- it's just a short distance, you'll be careful. But my sister was explaining that yes she'd be careful but that didn't mean other drivers would be careful. And somehow my neice got into her head that people smoke while driving so they weren't being careful. *although I'd take a smoker over a texter any day of the week hee* And for whatever reason, cuz she don't get this from us she thought smokers were "crazy."..Then she thought a minute and said..well Uncle Rick smokes, and well he's always nice to me. Mom, is he crazy? My sister said no he's not crazy, he's tried to stop but he's addicted. Which started a whole new convo... addiction, you know how you try to stop eating candy but you can't. She giggled. But she got it. And then said yeah cuz I really used to be addicted to the computer. Kids are so funny. (and right.. it's just amazing to me that a six year old can navigate to all of her sites online without any help at all).

I'm typing all of this to get out of washing hee. But I need to get ready for my boyfriend. Anybody flying into JFK on New Years morning. Trying to find some travel partners... although I think I will just take some sort of public transit. I know I did that before. This might be sacrilege but is anyone going to any other shows while there? Everything seems cheap. Has anyone seen Alter Boys?

Here's a 3.43 minute instruction on how to make lumpia.

The "instructor" is cute and funny!

Also, do you like Nasi Goreng (just a fancy - or Indonesian - way of saying 'fried rice') Like Chow Mein, it is the perfect dish for left-over roast meat, along with peas, corn and eggs; it is an idiot-proof dish provided you cook the rice a day ahead so that it has time to dry out a little, otherwise the result can be a little mushy.

(I am trying to impress the domestic goddesses here with all my ...ahem ...knowledge about cooking. :cryingwlaughter: )

Hi guys!! Rpoppert and I just got back to our hotel and I am on the hotel computer!!! Today she and I saw the 2pm show from Standing Room Only because we didn't yet have tickets for that show when we left California. (We just have Sunday and Monday night, both front row.) Anyway, so we saw the show from SRO but that was really a unique way to see the show because you can really see how the whole audince reacts!! It was AWESOME!!! People were loving the show and Clay and that makes me so happy for Clay!!! He did a GREAT job and sang the amen!! Then afterwards, we went out to stage door but after about 20 minutes, one of the security guys (not Jerome) came out to say that Clay would not be coming out!! Awww. we were sad but knew that we had front row to look forward to tonight. So, we walked around Times Square a little bit and then we ate at John's Pizzeria and went back to Spamalot at 7pm for Row A. Clay was AMAZING again as usual and he sang the amen again and he also played with the ribbons as the guard. I could count the freckles on his face, we were so close and I had never been that close before!!!! Then after the show was over, we waited about 15 minutes and he came out in his White Carolina hoodie (I don't remember what pants, I was in the Aiken fog, lol) and he signed things and took pictures with a lot of people. I had him sign one of my Clay Aiken TV Guides (with him on the cover) and he signed it and then went to take a picture with someone. So, I reached out to grab it and he wouldn't let it go. (And I'm thinking to myself, why is Clay not letting me have my TV Guide back? LOL) But then he said "Well, I only signed my first name, you do want my last name on there too, don't you?" Haha!! I said yes Clay I was wondering why you weren't giving it back to me, I didn't realize you weren't done signing it yet. LOL! So, anyway I got a few pictures but won't be able to post them until I get home on Wednesday. Rpoppert also got a few pictures but unfortunately didn't get her playbill in there quick enough to get signed. Well, that's about it for today. We have one more time to see the show tomorrow night and then it's back home to California for us!!!! Sad, sad, lol!!

I love Clay Aiken!!

From CB by roppert

EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hi everyone!!!!!! Clayfan2003 and I went to matinee and evening show today!! We did SRO this afternoon, and we had front row tonght!! We aslo were at the evening show last night, with SD!!! And, we had SD tonight!!! No SD this afternoon. We each had our pictures taken with CLay last night.. and both nights, we have gotten some pretty good pictures of him! I cannot wait to be home to post them!! I was so bus taking pictures tonight, I forgot to have him sign anything..

I will try to recap best I can. I am in the Aiken fog for sure! HE is just so awesome!!!!!!

This weekend is the first time I have seen the show since the first week of April.. laast run.. so, it was almost like seeing it fresh again. And, Clay has gotten, even better.. and I didn't think that was possible. HE was already so great.

Tonight, Clay was so, so, so on! Lots and lots, and lots of tongue action. He slapped the tush of the the "girl in nasty tights" during YWSOB!!!!

We were in front row.. and right, there when he was "dead",,I swear, I think ClayFan and I spent the entire rest of the scene watching his chest rise and fall.. ok, I digress!!

He played with his ribbons a slight bit.. he sang the greatest Amen!!! HE blew confetti into the audience, during the encore!

I love how he has switched up the tower scene. To me he is putting more into the whole exchange about the coconuts and the swallows.

And, yes, again.. lots of tongue! During the slo mo.. during lots of parts. And, yes, he poked NOt DeaFred with his triangle stick. I thought that was so cute!

I know, I am just jumping all over the place with the recap. Aiken fog!

This afternoon was awesome also. HE sang the Amen then too.. but this evening. he put so much life into it.

This evening, CLay got a lot of reaction to the "Idol of my age". Not as much this afternoon.

Clay has even put more finesse into "soiling his pants". HE is doing everything better.

Last night SD, Clay wore his Brown hoodie, with tan track pants! Tonight, the white Carolina hoodie. and the pants.. I haven't the faintest clue! Aiken fog!!

Both nights, his hair has been AWESOME!!!!! ANd, he has been just so nice taking pictures with people and signing autographs. Clay did not do SD this afternoon.. he needed to rest!

I think that is all I have for now. I will post pictures when I get home.. and anymore details that come to mind. We do have the show tomorrow night, and we will bring red reports back.

Had to add a funny part of yesterday's SD.. I was taking Clayfan's pic with Clay.. and her camera was taking a long time to click.. and Clay asks me.. if I was drawing the picture, or taking it???!!! Isn't he just the cutests???!!!!!

Hope everyone's having a wonderful time with all their travels (whatever you do, Kandre, don't try to use the toilet on a train*...), and with their families this holiday season.

I'm popping in to give a restaurant recommendation from the last time I was in NY with my cousin who lives there, a Japanese barbecue place called Gyu-Kaku. They have a little grill in the middle of each table, and you order a la carte raw items to cook on it. Happy hour in the East Village or lunch deals at the Midtown location each weekday are your best bargain, or just order the prix fixe (for two) to make things easy. The staff will help with demonstrations and recommendations. Izumi and her Japanese translator friends had a fine time filling my plate, after I amused them by saying the only item I wouldn't eat was the intestines. The skirt steak was wonderful.

Google map to both locations in the East Village and in Midtown

*My nemesis of a toilet was on the sleeper train from Miyazaki to Yokohama. It was one of those slot in the floor deals, except it was on a platform about 2.5 feet up. You step up to squat on top of this box, holding onto the helpful handrails, and try to aim while the train sways and bumps. And, you have to provide your own toilet paper. The other pleasant experience was brushing my teeth at the row of tiny sinks in the unisex section of the toilet. I hadn't run into a strange man in my bathroom since the mid-70's, and had forgotten the protocol.

:14:

smitten That is great news. The start to your new life and it looks like there will be many Clay fans to welcome you to California.

One teensy bit of advice, as a grandmother I can't resist, make sure you have an agreement with your employer on exactly what your duties will be, what your wages are, what hours you will be expected to be available and when you have time off.

even though I haven't been able to see Clay in NY I have been enjoying all the pictures and recaps--almost like being there-

I will miss all these!!

This has been great for him, hasn't it? He's so much more than AI2 runner -up, but, then, WE knew that anyway, right?

We certainly did, Penny! :Iluvclaysbutt:

Good luck with your move & new job, smitten! :thbighug-1:

This might be sacrilege but is anyone going to any other shows while there? Everything seems cheap. Has anyone seen Alter Boys?

I'm planning to go see Wicked with georgiesmybaby. I would like to see something else while there. Thinking about checking out the new TKTS booth in Times Square to see what kind of deals they have. I'd still kind of like to see Chris Seiber in Shrek if I could get inexpensive tix.

Work is driving me crazy. :breakpc1: I wish I had enough vacation left to have taken all of this week off.

I'm ready to have some FUN!!! :nana:

I just couldn't bring myself to do it! I knew I would be miserable thinking I was missing a Clay performance so I am just going to see Spamalot. hee

smitten... may I WORD the bolded above!!! I haven't been bored in... oh, 5.5 years (I didn't find him until final two night or finale week... yes, I'm slow!)

My daughter works in the industry, so if you need some pricing as to what CNA's earn or what people at an assisted living facility pay, let me know and I'll get some info for you.

Smitten is a CNA who has worked in nursing homes for years. I do agree that a contract is a good idea. She'll get room and board, which would be factored in, but there should be agreements in writing about duties, wages, and hours, as Lotus suggested.

Broadway.com has a story & pics up about Clay's caricature at Sardi's :)

I think the caption under pic #5 - "Adorable times two" - :flirtysmile3: might make a good thread title!

I also really like this part of the blurb:

His work in Spamalot will be done on January 11, when the Tony Award-winning Monty Python hit ends its four-year run. That said, if you haven’t seen him in the show, we suggest you don’t dilly-dally. After all, anyone who has seen his skilled turn as Sir Robin is wondering what show the American Idol alum could take on next. So hats off to you, Clay Aiken! Broadway likes you, they really like you!

Annabear My friend and I saw Lion King and Billy Elliot--both flatout great!--when we were in NY and Clay in NC for the weekend. We couldn't get tickets to Wicked (unfortunately).

Smitten Looking forward to having you in CA! There are LOTS of jobs for CNAs in CA, so you won't have to worry. If you don't like the job you have, you can always get another. And there are colleges close by if you're still going to school. After you're here for a year and establish residency, community college fees are about $26 per unit (cheaper than most states).

Annabear. I don't think wicked it my type of show... I'm gonna look over what's out there and try to decide on something. I might end up at a Knicks game.

Speaking of Spam..still trying to sell a ticket for the 4th in case anyone in interested or know someone who is. It's Row R - on the left side but the seat on the center ailse. I paid full price but am slashing prices, accepting layaway. Can even pay in installments - 5 dollars a week...whatever. heee.

But do you have it in writing? I think that was the concern. You know, shit happens. Even when you're sure it won't.

Only have two more days of work before our trip to see Clay! *bounce bounce bounce*

I'm a bit excited :lilredani:
