Gotta run - one more thought on GOG.

Next time you listen - imagine Clay walking.

The song has a great "walking" beat. Picture his long legs walking past all these things, what he sees as he walks down streets and paths of his life.

Picture him passing all these people who have "a rough go", his legs and big feet walking walking walking, thinking about his pockets full of iphones and contacts who can get him anything he wants at the mere mention of a want or need and yet, he can't help all these people he "passes" on his walk.

I'd like to take a walk with him.

Seriously. I'd love to try to keep up with him - his steps and his thoughts.

K.

Gotta go work!

C ya!

Love Grace of God...It is one I always sing to and I think it would make a great song for UNICEF!

Upbeat?

Uptempo?

After 5 years in this fandom; I still don't get the difference. Perhaps someone can give examples so I know what the heck people are talking about it.

Kim

For me, the upbeat is an unaccented beat before the first beat of the measure, or the conductor's upward stroke of the baton before a measure. Or it means being in a really nice mood.

Uptempo means .... something you can tap your toes to.

And KAndre, I've never thought Dylan's words were obscure or overly poetic. For me he is dead-on in describing things in ways that bring certain things into clearer focus -- some people call that poetic vision, but it's a gift whatever it is. I never thought of Dylan as prosaic or poetic as much illuminating. He fed my mind for a few years.

I think "Grace of God" is similar in tempo/flavor to

, which deals with similar themes. In fact, isn't GoG slightly slower? To me, the contrast between the message and the sound/tempo of the song may be intended to capture a listener's attention. It's also possibly an artistic choice to avoid coming off heavy-handed or preachy. Like Cotton suggested, it is a walking tempo...just the right speed to notice and reflect on the things.

I feel the heart of the song is gratitude, which is, or can be, an uplifting emotion.

Happy birthday Ansa!!!!

:bday2:

Cotton, here's a list of old Clay songs that are uptempo:

It's a CD I made ages ago that I called "Clay Rocks". But oops, I think maybe you were just looking to know which are the uptempo songs on OMWH.

Could use some good thoughts, in the last couple of weeks I have had two mammagrams, ultrasound, and a MRI of my Lt. breast. It is hard waiting for answers. Next I expect to here I will need a biopsy. This is a area that is not felt either by me or my doctor, so it was a suprise when the results came back. I keep telling myself that 80% of lumps are benign.

{{{{{gbmifan}}}}} :F_05BL17blowkiss:

gbmifan...good thoughts your way. Reading your story makes me realize that my procrastination about getting my regular mammogram (already over two years late) is something I should 1) stop and 2) try to figure out the reasons behind...Why DO I continually 'forget' to get it?

Muski - Get on the phone and reschedule an appointment for yourself TODAY! :waiting:

annabear, I haven't set you up at StripedSockSirens yet but will get to it asap! *pls don't let my laziness reflect on the group (SSS not eHP; eHP is proud of being lazy)*

That's quite alirght, Scarlett! :cryingwlaughter: I've been trying to attempt to knit a smiple scarf this week... I think I'll stick to the bears.

OMWH jumped another spot on the Mediabase AC Chart:

#26

119 spins

Up 16 from this time last week

Chug, chug, chug.

Happy, Happy BIrthday, ANSA! :F_05BL17blowkiss: (Now where's that emoticon of Clay popping up (heh) out of a birthday cake?)

:EmoticonRingAround: :cake:

Oh, well...

:bday2:

And Cotton, yeah...my hubby immediately said, "That's Buble, right?" when his song started. :281:

Your dream made me think of a video treatment I did way back when to a song that now I can't remember what it was. (I'm getting bad, y'all )...anyway, there were shots of Clay in the shower but only of his hands soaping his chest...gah.

Back to the office today, but only for today. I have tomorrow and Monday off...I decided to start taking off days here and there since we can't really afford to 'take a vacation' for a week or two. Well, that's not quite true...we are taking a week in late August to go to a niece's wedding in LA, but still...

SO today is like my Friday! TGIT!

Yikes! That's quite a dilemma. I agree with KAndre - your son should go there in person. Would it help if he went to college #1 to find out if they've sent the recommendation? They could fax it to college #2 rather than depending on the mail service, since time is of the essence. Then it may help a bit to visit the admissions office at college #2, to let them know he's serious about wanting to go there.

Too bad it's 3 hours away....but I spoke to them on the phone, in a general sense, a few minutes ago, and they said they don't do recommendations. Never heard of such a thing. So it's all up to college #2 now, I suppose. We'll find out tomorrow in person, I guess!

See, for me, there are as many uptempo songs on OMWH as ballads.

Uptempo: Ashes, EIDN, Falling, WIDTL, WOTW,

Mid-tempo: GOG, ALAWH

Ballads: OMWH, SAU, TRM, SL, LAA

Project for weekend: pull out my metronome and figure out tempos for each of the songs on OMWH. (I actually meant to do that with the ATDW songs too, since so many had problems with "uptempo" on that album...)

The next of the series of Betty897X wallpapers, for WOTW:

Oooooo, good call! I never thought about it, but the Another Day in Paradise is a good comparison. I also very much like the walking thing -- that is a good tempo for that kind of stuff.

And your last statement is so true. I'm grateful every day for all I DO have, even if it seems like things are kinda sucky.

I'm feeling that emotion right now, actually -- because of work. Definitely one of the team members is leaving, and my boss has moved up her retirement as well. With the possible addition of another team member leaving, plus me possibly being off for at least a week due to knee surgery...this place is going to hell in a handbasket.

See, I see all the songs on OMWH as mid-tempo - honestly, most of the ballads are mid-tempo too. I think As Long and Draw are definitely ballads. All tempo is beats per minutes and there's not a lot of difference between any of the tracks. I've got a program at home that will count them and I'll do a comparison later.

To me, a typical uptempo track would be Shakira's Hips Don't Lie - Ashes might edge into uptempo - but mostly in comparison to the other tracks on OMWH. For me, if it's something you don't get out and sweat a little to, it's not really uptempo. For me, Clay's only dance track really has been When You Say You Love Me.

I've got a messy and arrogant idea! Let's definitively define "uptempo", "midtempo", "ballad", "midtempo song that's not a ballad", "downtempo song that's not a ballad", "uptempo song that's not a dance track" and then we can seriously begin to disagree on what category stuff has to go in!

If I start bopping along to a song---not necessarily shakin' my Shakira thang as if I'm being electrocuted---I call it an uptempo song. It has to be more than a finger and/or tapping or a slight head bobbing (heh), but I don't have to be sweating or getting all jiggywiddit to the point of gyrating for me to consider it uptempo. I call the gyrating songs 'dance songs'. For me it's more of what the song makes me FEEL like doing...

With that in mind, I'll call:

Ashes

Fallin'

Forget I Ever Knew You

Everything I Don't Need

Ballads? I can't help but think "slow", but more accurately again for me it's a feeling more than a beat so...

Sacrifical Love

Something About Us

The Real Me

Lover All Alone

On My Way Here

Then there are those I might call 'mid tempo', but they're actually more like 'take it or leave it' tunes...that is, depending on my mood at the time, I can listen to them like a ballad or bop along more like an 'uptempo' (my definition) song...

Where I Draw the LIne

Weight of the World

As Long As We're Here

Grace of God

And with that very unscientific (and definitely un-authentically musical)assessment, I get my playlist called "Studio Clay" going on my work desktop computer---it's all of Clay's non-holiday songs studio produced---from MOAM, ATDW and OMWH...a nice chunk of time, especially when I put it on shuffle.

Later! :F_05BL17blowkiss:

OMG, I left out Zeppelin in my magical musical fantasy tour.

Question #1: If Clay Aiken really is "Falling" could he, please God, fall into some of Plant's old shirts?

Question #2: What happened to this kind of rock???

Kashmir is neither upbeat nor uptempo, yet I dance and it's Bonham's doing. And no, there's no pole involved!!! Live Zeppelin was like nothing else in this world --- a hot piece of business it was. Three hour concerts with no intermissions and 20 minute versions of How Many More Times and Whole Lotta Love ... gone but not forgotten.

Good morning everyone. It really isn't morning but g-daughter slept in and the computer is in her room. I'm driving her home this afternoon. The days went by quickly.

She commented the other day on how many Clay Aiken pictures there are in "her" bedroom!l Then said she liked his hair long - as compared to spikey! I said "darlin', where have you been for the past 3 years!" For an 11 year old who doesn't like boys yet (thank ya' Jesus!) she decided that Clay looked pretty handsome in one picture (the People layout!) I think she was just trying to earn points with Grandma!

Not a fan of GOG. I guess it fits in with the theme of the CD but I just don't care for it.

Happy Birthday ANSA!!!

ITA with your definitions. But, seriously, are there still people hanging around the fandom waiting for the danceable upbeattempo songs? :cryingwlaughter:

No one has mentioned the lovely "I know, I know" part in Grace of God yet. He kills on those 4 words.

I happened to find an online metronome, and so I've been playing around with it for a bit -- using only two songs.

KAndre's favorite, Hips Don't Lie -- I have it pegged at approximately 100 beats per minute.

Ashes -- I have that as approximately 132 beats per minute.

I could be wrong, but I think I'm pretty close.

My theory is that there are songs are "feel" uptempo (such as Shakira's song) because of the instrumention. There's a LOT going on in that song, and so it feels faster. But, in comparison to something like Ashes -- technically the beats are much slower.

I will need to do more research though -- maybe this weekend.

Sneaking in from work without reading because I just had to share this email. Somehow I thought you all would appreciate it!!

Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer. It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one. Obviously, we can no longer call this a soft drink and it gives new meaning to the names of 'cocktails', 'highballs' and just a good old-fashioned 'stiff drink'.

Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of: Mount & Do!

Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

:cryingwlaughter::cryingwlaughter:

ETA: I just noticed.

I really like For the Grace of God. You don't have to be a religious person to appeciate the message. This is something I think about a lot. But in most cases there is not much one can do. It doesn't make me depressed, rather I can see positivity in that not everyone's life is painful. Enjoy yours if things like this don't affect you.

Also Clay's voice is amazing on this song. He really shows his vesatility here. On songs like this there is no one who sounds like him.

Hips Don't Lie is one of the songs we dance to in our Saturday morning Zumba class. But we have a Latin version rather than a reggae type. And that hip swivilin stuff really works. My clothes are getting looser in the waist. Obviously I don't look as good as Shakira but I'll take any small improvement. :cryingwlaughter:

AND Most Importantly:
